SOPHIE HARRIS

This is an assortment of film and digita; photography, mostly from 2012-2013. I have always enjoyed portraiture and documentary photography, and using studio lighting for more formal projects.  I also enjoy creating different worlds with digital collages, and often they create a pathway to bigger projects.  A couple images sparked ideas for my more recent work.  "Propaganda" really got me thinking about how our influences would be drastically different if it wasn't for television and the media as a whole.  Since I made that photograph, a good bit of my work has dealt with the neverending battle between self-image and the media. "First Words" is a recontextualized image of my grandmother who has been deaf all her life.  This was the first time I used her as a subject and I found her captivating even though I didn't use her as a subject again for three years.
